QUAY OF THE RAID VICTIMS A PLACE OF SILENT MEMORY

Story of the place

The Quay of the Raid Victims is one of the most powerful memorial sites in Novi Sad, located along the Danube River, where the city’s history meets a space of quiet remembrance.

In January 1942, during World War II, the Novi Sad Raid took place here, when Hungarian occupation forces killed and threw more than 1,300 civilians into the Danube, most of them Serbs, Jews, and Roma.

The central element of the memorial is the sculpture “The Family”, created by sculptor Jovan Soldatović. The figures are not individualized, symbolizing all innocent victims, while the bronze footprints along the quay represent their final steps toward the river.

Today, the Quay of the Raid Victims stands as a place of memory and warning, reminding visitors of the importance of remembering the past.
